Duke v.s. UNC (mens basketball)

Have you ever wondered who likes Duke or UNC? Well, now you can learn. My partner and I have interviewed the other 5th graders in our wheel about which basketball team people like better; Duke or UNC.
There are 14 people in our wheel. We interviewed them all, and figured out some results.
Out of 14 people only 1 liked Duke, and her favorite player was Brian Zubek. The other 13 people all liked UNC, and most of them said their favorite player was either John Henson, or Larry Drew.
So, that's pretty much all we have to say!!! So, see you later!

Cookie Monster vs. Veggie Monster

FUN FACT!!!
The average human eats 3 million cookies in their lifetime while the average cookie monster eats 10 million cookies in it's lifetime!

First things first, has anyone watched Sesame Street lately? If so, have you seen this creature, veggie monster? He's green!!!! Plus, he eats fruit, not vegtables! There are many nuisances about this monster.
Second, he doesn't spill crumbs all over himself because veggies don't crumble!
Third this show is loosing viewers because of this outburst of a creature!!

These are a few thoughts and comments about this monster we've known to call veggie monster:

Emily F: "I feel that veggie monster is the worst excuse of for fun on a kid's TV show that I've ever seen!"
Marina R: "He is a sorry excuse of a monster."
Ms. F says: "I think cookie monster is more exciting--cookie monster is just cookie monster and he will always be."
Kelly S:"Veggie monster is the reason I don't watch this show anymore."
Hazel P: "He is bad because kids want cookies-- not veggies!!!!"
Some thoughts have been stated; some facts have been stated; and even a FUN FACT!!! has been stated! So, here's the true question:
Will they change veggie monster back to cookie monster, or will we have to do it the hard way........

Penguins

The penguins predators are orcas, lepord seals, sea lions, lizards, rats, ferrets, and foxes. When the mom penguin lays eggs the parents take turns finding food. When the chicks are born they start calling their parents because the parents tell them apart from their voice.

WHY CROCS (SHOES) ARE DANGEROUS

Many people consider crocs comfortable shoes, but what they don't know is that they can majorly hurt you. There have been stories released about people that have had thier feet and toes sucked in escalators becuasee of the magnetic force of the escalator and the rubber. A 10 year old from Kansas City got her toe cut in the escalator on a trip to the mall. The mom quotes, "When I removed her croc when she was complaing, it was frightining." Mant other parents have stories on how thier children and even themselfs have gotten injuired while wearing crocs. Along with that, crocs slow children down on the playground and cause them to fall on climbing walls. Quotes from others: "I like them becuase they are good water shoes", David H. ; "I do not like them because they are uncomfortable", Emily F. ; "They are OK becuase you can wear them all the time", Parker H ; "I like them because you can wear them in the rain", Ms. F ; " Crocs hurt my feet and made me cry", Hazel P. ; "They slide off and make me fall", Kelly S. As you can see many people have many different opinons on crocs and how good of shoes they are. Although they are good water shoes, they can be dangerous so our advice is not to buy these shoes even if it is tempting. If you want to try them for the beach that would be fine but, as soon as you go to the mall just call your self dead.

Holiday Traditions

Ever since I arrived back from winter break I have been constantly asking my friends what they are doing for the holidays. We interviewed two students and asked them what their holiday traditions are.

Family 1:

1. A few weeks before Christmas my family strings popcorn that is then hung up on the Christmas tree.
2. We put up swag all around our giant wrap-around porch.

3. One of my parents always hangs a pickle ornament on the tree and the first person to find it gets a treat which varies from year to year.

4. We always have sparkling apple cider at Christmas dinner.

Family 2:

1. I always eat Christmas eve dinner at the Carolina Inn with my family and I eat a grilled cheese sandwich.

2. When I come back from the Carolina Inn I leave a note for Santa and give him glow sticks so it is easier for him to see.

3. In the morning every year for the past 5 years I have gotten a hand painted ornement from my parents.

4. Then at Christmas dinner I help make and eat homemade lasagna.

Family 1 and 2 are two families from the 5th grade who wish to remain unamed.

State Fair !!! :)

Fernando and I Alexandra both went to the state fair and so we will tell you the most fun parts of the fair!!!! Fernando's favorite part was the rides his favorite ride was the drop zone!!! Sooooooooo Fun!!! :) Alexandra's favorite part of the fair was the village of yesteryear!!!!! It was soooo coooool!!! The state fair had fun games, rides, places to visit and they had good food!!! ( most of the time). There were realy odd foods like chocolate covered bacon which our teacher tried, they also had deep fried butter!! ( ewwww) Some of our classmates favorite foods there were deep fried oreos, deep fried butter, candy aples, funnel cake, and ribbon fries!!

In Social Studies 5th graders are learning about Ancient Indians also known as the First Americans in the United States. 5th grade students are learning how to multiply 3 digits by 2 digits. Student in writing are learning about nouns and pronouns. In science 5th graders are learning about barometers and clouds.

At our school we have a new CUB signs saying be quiet. We think they put them up because people were talking to much in the lines and while they were walking to places. There's no talking in the hallways during school hours which is 7:15-2:30. They look like blue paw prints saying NO TALKING!! There is also a picture of a girl saying shhhh!!! There is one in the 5th 4th and 3rd grade hallway. There is also one in the main and kindergarten hallway. So let's remember to be quiet in the halls so we won't disturb teachers and classrooms!

Let THE WHEEL Begin!

4th and 5th graders started The Wheel today. Students will meet with these groups on Mondays from 2-2:30 for the next 6 weeks. Some of the options for students are Art, Math Olympiads, Homework Helpers, Study Hall, Technology, Newspaper, and . Students will rotate through the different groups throughout the year.

The newspaper group will be meeting with Miss Fisher and learning how to publish an online paper in a blog format.
